What is Ashwagandharishta?

You must have heard of the term Ashwagandha many times. It is an evergreen shrub that grows in Asia and Africa. Ashwagandha contains chemicals that might help calm the brain, reduce swelling, lower blood pressure, and alter the immune system. It is chiefly used to reduced stress. Then what is Ashwagandharishta? What does it mean? Ashwagandharishta is also known as Ashwagandharishtam, it is an Ayurvedic classical formulation. It contains Ashwagandha as the main ingredient which shows positive results in managing stress or anxiety due to its anti-stress properties.

Since ashwagandha is traditionally used as an adaptogen, it is used for many conditions related to stress. Adaptogens are believed to help the body resist physical and mental stress. Some of the conditions it is used for include insomnia, ageing, anxiety and many others, but there is no good scientific evidence to support most of these uses. The presence of Ashwagandha may also help in managing epilepsy due to its antiepileptic property. Some evidence suggests that Ashwagandharishta may also help in improving the digestive system. 

According to Ayurveda, Ashwagandharishta has Vata balancing and elements that improves intelligence. It has properties that can help in providing relief from the symptoms of anxiety and stress. It also manages Kapha and aids in reducing fatigue. Ashwagandharishta also has ingredients that provide strength rejuvenation. These are properties that further help in reducing fatigue. In addition to that, taking Ashwagandharishta in recommended doses can help in the proper functioning of male sexual performance. Its Vata balancing property helps to balance the aggravated Vata, thereby reducing the symptoms of arthritis.

Ashwagandharishta is made in both liquid and syrup form. You can take Ashwagandharishta as directed by the physician to get relief from the

symptoms of stress and anxiety

. Mix it with equal amounts of lukewarm water to dilute its taste a little. Take it once or twice a day, preferably after meals. Ashwagandharishta is generally well tolerated and does not have any side effects when taken in the recommended dose. However, it is advisable to consult the doctor before using Ashwagandharishta.

The main ingredients in Ashwagandharishta are Ashwagandha, Safed Musli, manjistha, harad, turmeric, Daru Haridra, liquorice, rasna, vidarikand, arjuna, nagarmotha, nisoth, anantamul, red sandalwood, sandalwood, Vacha, Chitral, dhataki, honey, ginger, kalimirch and pipalli. 

Ashwgandharishta helps manage convulsions or seizures in epilepsy. Epilepsy termed Apasmara in Ayurveda is a condition in which patients experience seizures consisting of jerky movements of body parts and often loss of consciousness. It involves all the three doshas Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Ashwagandharishta is useful in managing fatigue in day-to-day life. Fatigue refers to a feeling of tiredness, weakness, or lack of energy. Fatigue is caused due to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha. Ashwagandharishata helps balance Kapha and thus reduces fatigue.

Sexual dysfunction in men can be in the form of loss of libido i.e. not inclined to a sexual act. There can also be a low erection time or semen expelled soon after sexual activity. This is also referred to as early discharge or premature ejaculation. Consuming Ashwagandharishta helps in the proper functioning of male sexual performance. This is because it increases the quality and quantity of semen.

Ashwagandharishta is an effective polyherbal remedy used for reducing painful conditions like osteoarthritis. As per Ayurveda, osteoarthritis occurs due to an aggravation of Vata dosha. It can cause pain, swelling, and joint mobility. Taking Ashwagandharishta helps to balance the aggravated Vata and reduces the symptoms of arthritis because of its Vata balancing property.

Apart from these Ashwagandharishta helps increase your height, lowers blood sugar levels. It also reduces cortisol. It has anti-cancer properties. It improves sexual well-being and treats adrenal fatigue. It also benefits people suffering from anaemia. Some common side effects that may occur after consuming Ashwagandharishta excessively are upset stomach, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, acidity and heartburn.
