In summers, due to the increased environmental temperature because of intense sunlight, i.e oiling/lubrication/nourishment/hydration from the body gets depleted.
It is very important in the body for maintaining body strength.
This leads to increase of Vata dosha.
Food habits to be followed in summers :
✔ Sweet and nourishing foods
✔ Food with cold potency which nourishes the body, hydrate the body
✔ Flavoured natural sugar syrups mixed with natural cold water kept in a clay pot help to compensate for the loss of Drava from the body
✔ The use of ghee, boiled milk with added sugar helps to compensate for heat and dry properties
✔ Rice cooked in meat soup is useful.
✔ Grapes, coconut water, Rasala (Shreekhand), mango, banana, jack fruit, dates, and pomegranate should be consumed
✔ To compensate the excess thirst, having a mixture of coriander seed powder, sugar and water is beneficial
✔ Use of camphor in drinking water gives a soothing effect
✔ Cold buffalo milk sweetened with sugar should be consumed at bedtime in the night
Lifestyle:
✔ One can sleep during the daytime in a cool area and during the nighttime on a terrace area under the moonlight
✔ Clothes should be light preferably made of cotton.
✔ Use of water fortified with camphor for daily activities helps to give a cooling effect
✔ Walking in the garden also helps to minimize the fatigue originating due to the season
✔ Use of umbrella has also been advised during the time of going out in sunlight
Dont’s :
✔ Excess exercise

✔ physical exertion and excess sexual activity should be avoided as in the summer season the body strength is low.
✔ Food items having excessive spicy, sour, salty taste should be avoided and food with hot potency should not be consumed.

✔ In unavoidable situations, it can be consumed in very minimal quantity and with plenty of water mixed in it.
✔ Curd and buttermilk are cold on touch only but have Ushna Veerya. Hence, strictly contraindicated this season

✔ Nowadays, consumption of carbonated and artificially sweetened soft drinks (non-alcoholic beverages) in chilled form is seen widely in summers. These soft drinks have low nutrient levels and many potential health problems. The inherent acids and sugars have both acidogenic and cariogenic potential, resulting in lowering bone density, weakness on the cellular level of the body
